Fabtech Chicago
The Fabtech Chicago 2003 is over by now. The impression that I got from this show can be divided into two.
First: There were not too much foreign visitors.
I can remember Fabtech Chicago show 4 years ago and there were much more foreign visitors. What I mean with foreign visitors is that they are Europeans and Asian
visitors. This just tells that the economies on these regions are not doing very well yet. While writing this, I just noticed a news that the orders for German industries rose 2.0% from
previous month. Yearly basis they rose 2.2% That was more than expected by analysts who expected then to be 0.7% and 0.8%. This was the first time for a long time when I heard something positive news from Germany, the leading economy in Europe.
Secondly, The show had slightly less Tube and Pipe exhibitors than before. This is not a surprise if thinking about the economy
during last 2 years. Also the number of visitors was not something big, but it seems that the quality was good though. Just
like with Cleveland last year and Chicago two years ago, it seems that companies are saving and will not send crowds of
people to shows. Just the important persons. From exhibitors point of view this is not that bad actually, since you don't waste time for non-important ones.
For me there will be an interesting week ahead. I will be going to Iceland. The isolated island on the North-Atlantic Sea. It is part of Northern Countries including
also Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. Among some other places, I am looking forward to visit at Marel Co. That is one of the world's leading developer and manufacturer of high-tech processing equipment for the food industry.
Knowing that, it is clear that they are involved with tube and pipe matters indeed. We will therefore have common matters to talk for sure.
