What is ServoTIG and why it is something new?
- It is Orbital Welding Machine that is able to find 100% welding penetration just by itself.
- There is no need to enter parameters. This saves all the time needed for parameter programming.
- No need to make test welding. This saves material and time.
- It can make full penetration even if the material has unexpected changes
- Weld information available for each weld that tells all about how penetration succeeded.
- Multiple welds can be made simultaneously by the same operator.

How it goes?
The welding head is clamped around the tube just like every orbital welding head.

You enter some information from the pipe: Material, diameter and wall thickness.

The welding cycle is started. ServoTIG starts welding and examines the welding area until it finds the full
penetration and then keep it during the total orbital weld (APC = Automatic Penetration Control). Realtime you can
see(follow) on the weldclock on the screen the welding progres and the quality
of the penetration..

If there are any unexpected changes of the material during the welding process -
like wall thickness variations- those are found by the machine and adjustments are
made automatically to get full penetration.
Full report about welding penetration is available after welding indicating how
welding was made. The penetration is logged in Weldvision and all the information of the
penetration is available (this is unique in welding).

In the round diagram the outer blue ring shows the penetration quality level how the
ampre - shown in the inner ring - is being controlled. The inner
ring the controlled ampere or heat input depending on diagram above. Red is upslope (current goes up) and blue is
downslope (current goes down to zero).

There is a video clip available from the welding test. File size is 44.8 MB, so you need to have
broadband internet connection. It may be better that you download it to your hard drive first and then view from there. You

Some notes that are good to know when watching this video
- The welded part is 114.3 x 2.0 mm St316 where an extruded outlet of 114.3 mm was made in order to do Pipe branching by Butt-Welding.
- When making extruded outlets that are samller tham the main pipe, the orbital welding is easy to carry out because the wall thickness is practically the equal around the extruded outlet. Therefore, the test was made using the most demaning case: one-to-one. Normally this require changing of parameters according to the wallthickness and it is likely that without test welding it is not possible.
- Since this is the extreme case 114.3 pipe with 114.3 mm extrusion, there is naturally certain wall thickness variatio depending on what part of the extrusion is measured.
- When there is wall thickness variation, it is safest to start from position where the wall is heaviest.
- The given information was 1) Pipe material, 2) Clamping ring diameter indicating branch pipe size, 3) Main pipe diameter and wallthickness.
- First the ServoTIG starts welding and at the same time it analyzes the result until there is perfect penetration. It stores this position to memory, so that when full round has been made, it will continue welding to complete this area where the penetration is not good yet. This is the blue colour on the screen.
