Inductoheat, Australia, have announced the retirement of John Powell after 32 years of service, where he has held the position of Export Director in addition to other group company board positions over a number of years. John is well known to many people associated with the International Tube Association and the tube and pipe industry world wide, having been admitted as a member of the then fledgling ITA in the early 1980's, after presenting his first paper to an ITA conference in Belgium.
Since that time, he has been the author of many papers to both the tube and wire industries, presented over the last 20 years to the international conferences of the ITA and International Wire & Machinery Association. He has also been an active member and Vice President of the Asia Pacific Management Board of the ITA.
John also sits on the International Executive Board of the International Tube Association and is best known for his involvement in pioneering the development of the inline annealing of copper tube at high speeds and on a continuous basis, back in the 1980's. Such systems currently run at speeds up to 600m/min in modern high productivity copper tube mills.
At Inductoheat's request, following his retirement John Powell will present 2 final papers at the forthcoming Asia Pacific Tube 2003 conference in Bangkok on September 26th. The first paper will be entitled "Pipe Coating for Oil and Gas Pipelines" and the second will be a co-authored paper on a new technological development of "Inline Eccentricity Control of Tube". John will spend his retirement undertaking some consultation work, when he is not touring Australia with his wife and extended family.
