High Speed Welding of Stainless Steel Tubes

SAF (France), a company of AIR LIQUIDE Welding group, supplies automatic TIG and Plasma welding system worldwide . TIG (GTAW) is the most popular process for high quality welding of stainless steel tubes.

Research and development at SAF, experience and close contacts with our customers allows SAF to provide this specific market, a dedicated range of installations.

SAF's welder

While a single TIG welding system runs a slow process, it is low cost equipment that most often copes with existing forming lines. However, traditional single -torch systems are limited in weld speed by the fact that only so much power can be transmitted to the tube by a single cathode or torch. When approximatively 300 amps is reached, the effective weld ceases to increase. The addition of a second arc TIG or Plasma allows higher performances. Optimum results can be achieved with SAF tricathode sets. These combinations concentrate the energy where it is necessary i.e alongthe joint, allowing more power to be delivered to the tube and therefore increasing welding speed. The E16 and E 25 torches are the only design that use a dual gas circuit. This dual flow uses a low volume/high flow central gas to protect the eelectrode and stiffen the arc. The result is longer electrode life and deeper weld penetration for the same power.

On another hand, SAF also provides a large range of MMA, TIG and MIG/MAG power sources for all kind of applications on site or in workshops. A complete range of high quality filler materials : coated electrodes, rods, wires, SA wires/fluxes combinations and cored wires for high productivity MIG welding.
