One-Hit Bending of Complex Tubular Components
A new, electro-hydraulic tube bending machine has been introduced by Rivers
Machinery for processing ferrous tubing up to 25 mm diameter. Called BEMA
Reverse 25-DS, the Italian-built, 7-axis CNC machine offers significant
advantages over other tube benders through its ability to complete multiple
bend radii on a workpiece in a single, uninterrupted cycle.
Developed with the automotive and air conditioning industries firmly in mind,
the machine offers a number of facilities intended to maximise production
output. Foremost among these is the capability to keep six sets of tooling
permanently mounted on the machine. This allows six different bending radii
to be used in each cycle with the same number of bends and counterbends. It
is also possible to combine side and flat bending of oval or rectangular
tubes in the same cycle. A further aid to productivity is the ability to
execute right- and left-handed bends sequentially.
A key feature of the Reverse 25-DS is a new IPC Rainbow control system that
provides three-dimensional colour graphic representation of the workpiece and
offers massive program storage through provision of a 2.1 Gb hard disk.
Programming is via either Cartesian or Polar co-ordinate input, or via ISO
language, allowing straightforward modification of programs as necessary.
These features are applied to a machine of exceptionally high mechanical
rigidity, whose components are designed to provide long life and top levels
of reliability. The machine is fully compatible with robotic and other
automated load and unload systems to permit computerised solutions for modern
production requirements.
