Padana Tubi E Profilati Acciaio Spa Hits The Big Time By Employing Emmedi Welders Equipped With New Supervising System

The new Emmedi Supervising System fitted on the HF induction welders is an alternative to the standard operator panel that displays the main welding operating conditions and any alarms in the form of simple text strings, it can also be equipped with a very high quality industrial computer and state-of-the-art supervision and diagnostic software developed by EMMEDI in order to provide its customers not only with complete functional control but also with a set of interactive type utilities with the production operator.

The structural logic of the program promotes extremely easy, guided navigation through the various options of the main menu.

All generator operating functions are controlled in real-time.

It is also possible to consult and if necessary print the log of events that may have stopped the production cycle, or to browse through the so-called "recipes" in which the operator can insert and save the characteristic data of each single production run and automatically obtain a set of practical proposals able to optimize plant efficiency from the system.

The classical electrical parameters of the H.F. generator and any optional process variables, such as speed, temperature and frequency, are shown on the screen using bar-type virtual tools with also digital indication of a size that is clearly visible also from a certain distance.

These variable working parameters can also be converted into both dynamic and historical "trends" in order to trace evolution of these in relation to a particular settable period of time. This function is particularly useful when monitoring the production process in time.

Any alarms present at system power-on or which occur during operation of the H.F. generator are managed by the supervision system in a completely innovative manner. The text of each alarm can be further selected and, using a handy "HELP" key, the system displays a list of the most probable causes of the alarm, also suggesting how to eliminate these. A set of digitized photographs indicates the location of the sensor that has detected the alarm in order to permit extremely fast, precise tracing of this.

The new release of the Emmedi Supervision System provides a very unique and useful operating function by which the operator makes run the welder according to the specific data, if saved and stored in a recipe, for each single production. The supervision system checks the welding parameters of the recipe, or better, it verifies the existence of all the necessary information to make run the welder automatically (needless to say that it cannot check if the parameters are false or true). Thus, the operator's task is to prove that the recipe suits the type of production and that the type of impeeder, welding inductor and type of material are the correct ones.

One of Emmedi's privileged customers, Padana Tubi e Profilati Acciaio Spa, the Italian leading company specialised in the production of carbon steel and stainless steel tubes of many shapes, has decided to have the Emmedi Supervision System fitted on two of the four classic oscillator tube welders recently purchased, namely on two KU 850/STF/FE 850KW output power induction welding equipment. A KU 850/STF/FE will be used to produce high quality mechanical tubes, internally scarfed, while the other one will be employed to produce structural tubes, either rectangular or squared, both running at high speed.

Along with these KU 850/STF/FE welders, Emmedi will be supplying two smaller welders to produce carpentry tubes: a KU 350/STF/FE – 350Kw output power and a KU 450/STF/FE – 450Kw output. They will be set up between June and December 2001. Considering the just awarded contract relevant to these four system, Padana Tubi e Profilati Acciaio owns now 16 Emmedi HF induction welders for carbon steel tubes covering a production range between 3/8" and 14" O.D., and from 1.5 to 14 mm. W.T., and 7 Variable Frequency welders for stainless steel tubes, covering a production range from 10 to 200 mm. O.D. and from 1 to 7 mm. W.T. All the EMMEDI welders installed are classic oscillator tube type. The first Emmedi welder supplied to this customer is dated 1977 and it is still running!

Padana Tubi e Profilati Acciaio' s manufacturing plants are getting larger and larger, the management of the company has decided to automate the production to satisfy, both from a qualitative and quantitative point of view, the needs of the market granting very cost-effective and high quality products.
