SMS Meer installs finishing line for Sinarsky Pipe Works, Russia

At the end of last year, SMS Meer GmbH, Mönchengladbach, the Tube and Copper Plants Division of SMS Demag AG, Germany, received an order from JSC Sinarski Pipe Works in Kamensk-Uralski, Russia, to supply a new pipe finishing line for the machining of tubings and casings. The guaranteed high availability of the complete line and its individual components was the decisive factor for the placement of the order with SMS Meer.

The finishing line will handle pipes with diameters from 42 to 146 mm. The grades correspond to grades D to T of GOST standard and J55 - P110 to API 5CT. The line is designed for an annual capacity of 70 000 t of tubings or 170 000 t of casings. Commissioning is scheduled for the beginning of 2002.

The scope of supply includes a full-body ultrasonic tester and two thread cutting machines which operate on the principle of stationary pipe, rotating tool head. This newly developed tool head which has already been built several times is characterised by minimum backlash and guarantees the closest machining tolerances.

SMS Meer is also to deliver a two-spindle coupling applicator, a 2-head hydrostatic pipe tester for a test pressure of up to 1250 bar, an automatic measuring system (AMS) for weighing, length measuring, embossing and marking the pipes as well as a magnetic bundler. The interconnecting transport facilities and the electrical control system for the complete line will also be supplied by SMS Meer.

Outstanding features of the finishing line are the high line capacity with minimum noise, the short size and tool changing times and the fully automatic operation.
