Geneva, (AFP) - A bitter row over US steel tariffs intensified on Monday, June 2:nd 2002, when the World Trade Organisation gave the green light to the European Union for the experts to examine the legality of the US steel measures.

Meanwhile as the trade dispute snowballed, two of the United State's trade partners - Japan and South Korea - also lodged requests for expert panels at the meeting of the WTO's dispute settlement body.

But the US used its rights under WTO rules to block their establishment, though both Asian countries said they would ask again on June 14 when panels will automatically be set up. A second request cannot be blocked by the country "in the dock".
