William A. Wolfe, a 30 year veteran of the steel and tubular products industries, has been named Executive Director of The Steel Tube Institute of North America (STI). Mr. Wolfe's appointment was announced today by Mark Magno, Acting President of the Institute. It concludes an extensive, six-month effort by a Search Committee composed of member companies of the organization.
"We're pleased to have found a person of Mr. Wolfe's proven talents and experience to spearhead the continued growth of the STI," Mr. Magno said. "Today's difficult business environment presents a number of challenges to our association and our member companies. Mr. Wolfe is an excellent choice to lead us through these challenging times."
Mr. Magno noted that heading a trade association such as STI requires a unique blend of personal, organizational and leadership skills. "As Executive Director, Mr. Wolfe will work with STI's officers, committees and staff to promote our industry, its positions and its products. Our Executive Director must not only be an effective spokesman for the STI's positions, but must also help us identify the trends and issues that can provide opportunities or adversely affect our industry."
Mr. Wolfe has spent his entire business career in the steel and tubular products industries. He served most recently as Vice President of Sales for the Ferrous Exchange, a global electronic exchange for real-time trading of steel contracts.
Prior to that, he spent 28 years with Copperweld Corporation and its successor, LTV Copperweld, the last three years as Vice President of Materials and Services. Earlier, he served as Vice President-Structural Tubing, managing the operations of two Copperweld manufacturing facilities.
Mr. Wolfe joined Copperweld in 1972 as an Inspector Foreman at its Warren, Ohio steel mill. After serving in several staff positions, he moved into the company's steel bar operations, rising to the position of Manager, Bar Finishing Plant.
During his career with Copperweld, Mr. Wolfe served for several years as the chairman of the STIs Manufacturing and Technical Committee. He obtained a B.S. degree in business administration from Youngstown State University in 1971 and an MBA degree from the same school in 1977.
The Steel Tube Institute was founded in 1930. Its mission is to promote the growth and profitability of the steel tubing industry in North America by increasing sales opportunities for its members, assisting these companies in creating a competitive advantage versus other materials, and providing a forum for discussion of issues impacting the industry. It is headquartered in Mentor, Ohio. | |
